Against this background, smart grids are attracting attention as next-generation power distribution networks that can achieve the optimum balance between the supply and demand of electricity by using information and communication technology (ICT). The market demand is expected to increase greatly as smart grids come into widespread use to meet the needs of various regions, including Europe, North America and Asia.
In order to develop specific measures to achieve the goals of Environmental Vision 2050, Toshiba Group is promoting initiatives aimed at providing a stable power supply and mitigating climate change through its low-carbon energy technologies.
